Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's first attempts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two separate record labels signing and subsequently dropping her before the release of any music. In 2007, however, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted modest attention for its cheerfully flippant title track. I kissed a Girl, a confident song about her sexual inclinations with a hard-edged electronic pop beat, was a big splash several months after. Some critics accused the song as a sly reference to homosexuality, while others claimed that its racy depiction was meant to appeal to male fantasies. However, the mix of sensuality and polished music helped I Kissed a Girl become an instant hit in a variety of countries and drove the album sales of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with its second hit single also proved popular. The album which Perry wrote herself sold more than three million copies.
